Frequently Asked Questions :
Where are you ?
Our workshop is based in the central South Island. I work from my home property in Rural Temuka, close to the Port City of Timaru. Being on State Highway One means that 99% of NZ can overnight courier work to us, and in fact 99% of our work arrives via courier or Post, rather than walk ins. See our Contact Page for address and contact details.
Can I bring my Equipment into your Workshop ?
99% of our work is sent via courier companies. If you happen to be in our area and would like to drop your equipment off, please contact me to arrange a suitable time and for directions.
How long do repairs take ?
This is a tough one! Many things make this an elastic thing! Workload, Seasonal differences, Part delays etc. Broadly speaking we endeavour to inspect your equipment and either repair or provide the written estimate within 5 -10 working days. Please do NOT take this as a bond or guarantee! If you have a specific need for your equipment for a certain date, by all means advise us and we will try our best to accommodate.
Can you repair my old 35mm camera ?
We recognise that most repair firms no longer accept 35mm film cameras for repair. While we can understand their hesitance, we have a 'soft spot' for film and try to repair your 35mm camera if possible. BUT ... please be aware this is getting harder! Models that were 'bread and butter' repairs back in the 1980's are now 30yrs older and issues with wear and tear and perished parts often makes repairs not feasible. Be aware our $65 non refundable fee applies to all of these cameras, as often we have to spend a good while attempting the repair before finally succeeding or having to accept defeat ...
Please also allow a longer turn around time for these repairs ( including older lens servicing ) as we often have to Clean, lube and leave aside to recheck etc. Also we often spend a LOT more time on these than what we bill, as we enjoy seeing these cameras being used, but because of that we need to fit them into our normal work schedule, so delays on these jobs WILL occur - please be understanding.
Can I phone you to talk about my Equipment ?
This is one we struggle with! While we understand you would like to talk to us, often the time is simply not available. We prefer that you email or Facebook message us please. That way we do not have to stop a repair ( often at a less than convenient time! ) to answer the phone, and we can read and reply to emails or Facebook messages during our coffee break ! We appreciate your understanding on this.
Can you give me a 'Ballpark Price " ??
NO The simple answer is no ... even if you think your fault is 'common' or if you read about it on an Internet Page, or saw a YouTube video, quite simply in our years of experience it has never ceased to amaze that several faults often have different root causes. It helps neither of us to 'Crystal Ball' a likely cause and pluck a price out of the air!
